Welcome to Lund

We are proud and happy to welcome ornithologists from all over Europe to the 14th EOU congress in Lund from 21 to 25 August 2023.

Since there has been no physical EOU meeting since Cluj-Napoca 2019 we know that people are eager to get together again. When abstract submission closed there were 408 contributions suggesting that attendance indeed will be great.

With around 100 000 inhabitants Lund as a city is very much dominated by the university with 46 000 students. We, the organisers, all work at the Department of Biology situated in the north-eastern part of the town. The department has 300 employees of which 47% are women. Biology was a part of education already in 1666 when the university was founded.

The conference venue will be AF-borgen (the “academic union fort”), a student union building that was built in 1851 in the picturesque centre of Lund, right next to the 900 years old cathedral. Besides interesting science about birds, we also hope to show you nice areas in Skåne (Scania), the southernmost province of Sweden, during the mid-conference excursions.

For the organising committee, Anders Brodin
